Feminicide Attempt Case: Fofo Márquez's Sentencing

Rodrigo Márquez, brother of "Fofo" Márquez, informed the press that the defense of the former content creator will appeal the 17-year prison sentence for the crime of attempted femicide. This incident occurred in a parking lot of a shopping mall in Naucalpan, State of Mexico, where "Fofo" beat Edith Márquez. He was arrested on April 4, 2024, despite the beating taking place on February 22 of that year.

The sentence was based on a video showing how "Fofo" hit Edith, punching her in the face, kicking her on the ground, and leaving her injured at the scene. Judge Carmen Vilchis upheld the sentence of 17 and a half years in prison, accompanied by a fine and the obligation to receive psychological treatment. The hearing was held remotely from the Texcoco prison.

Regarding Márquez's transfer from Barrientos prison to Texcoco, after videos surfaced showing him being beaten by guards, Rodrigo mentioned that authorities ensured his safety and that he is now feeling calmer. He considered it positive that the aggression was made visible, highlighting the deficiencies of the Mexiquense penitentiary system.

The defense of "Fofo" is preparing an appeal after the judge upheld the sentence for the committed crime. They have 10 days to appeal the decision. Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated due to a cellphone seized from an inmate in Barrientos containing images related to the case. The State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office is investigating inmates and officials for alleged extortion of the influencer's family.
